Kite to the South Pole
n November 2006 Kevin Biggar and Jamie Fitzgerald are going to attempt to man haul from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and then return back to their starting point using traction kites. In the spirit of the original Antarctic explorers they will be unresupplied and start with all the provisions they need. This journey has never been done before unsupported.
Its a good thing they are fit buggars, in 2003 they won the Trans-Atlantic rowing race in world record time!!!
Kevin and jamie have decided on the Samurai 2 …in their own words: ” If we don’t make it back in time from the Pole to the coastline we either have to pay per day to keep the plane waiting or winter over with the penguins. Neither is pleasant so after extensive testing of a variety of brands we chose Ozone kites – in particular the Samurai II. This kite is stable and predictable in its handling, turns on a dime and pulls like a tractor. We are taking the 3m, 5m and 7m versions to bracket all wind conditions.”
