Snowkite expedition greenland 2007- 24h record
The Project:A first time ever crossing of Greeenlands Icecap with snowboard and kiteOur goal is to attempt an ice cap crossing for the first time ever with snowboard and kite, also called snowkiting, by hauling all the equipment in a pulka (sled).Also making a 24hours distance record on snowboard and kite on the icecap.
We will follow a new crossing route, starting from the southern tip of Greenland's icecap and heading north to one of the settlements on the West. Starting from the south gives us an opportunity to have more favourable winds and to go faster. The trip will take approximately 30-40 days, period departure august 2007
Ecological: through this expedition we believe that we have a unique opportunity to help raise awareness of the importance of wind and the energy that can be harnessed from this element. "You don't have to buy lift tickets and stuff,” the 14-year-old Benzie student said Saturday, gesturing at the open expanse of a frozen Lake Leelanau. He was getting instruction in the art of snow-kiteboarding at the Kite Derby, held on the 8-inch thick ice.

Monday, September 11, 2006August hit and suddenly the conditions we’ve been tearing our hair out for started rolling in. No doubt, September even more so marks the changing of the weather guard and brings with it a sense of optimism and excitement for the next few months.
We mark this change in mood and temperature with stories from the extremes to whet your appetite for all the riding opportunities coming up. Sticking initially with the warm thoughts, issue 23 sees our build up to the ever more popular season in South Africa that begins in November. Riders from all around Europe take advantage of a commanding exchange rate and head south to dine on the pleasure served up by the majestic beaches, punchy, menacing winds and magnificent waves found around its picturesque shores. We experience two very different cities in a two part feature on the most wind-swept and hazardous stretches of coastline in the world, and reveal the spots to look out for in a wind-charged country that provided 40 consecutive windy days earlier this year.
Iceland may not be the first place you think of when booking your summer holiday, but if you’re in the mood for a very different experience that’s only a short plane ride away, or are just in need of a snowkite fix, we have just the ticket.
And in terms of wild travel and experiences, we couldn’t very well look past Scotland. However, this time, getting the experience were a couple of French blokes who gave us their take on our northerly neighbour as they stoked the auld alliance.
Also this issue, we take a look at some of the shapes and trends apparent in the new kit that will be lining your local shop’s shelves in 2007, and we continue in our quest to get you tooled up in terms of your riding skills with more in depth technique articles.

Damian is a Cabrinha team rider. He talks about the new Contra and gives his perspective on the subtle differences between Cabrinha's Crossbow and Switchblade kites. Damian also talks about the new Zero Gravity kiteboards and what it’s like competing on the PKRA tour.

The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival just got a little bigger with the addition of the World Backcountry Freeride Jam (WBFJ), April 21 to 23. It’s a festival within a festival, featuring enough action to blow your mind.
If you hang around Whistler long enough, the backcountry will start to lure you from resort lift lines and “schralped” slopes. Suddenly you will start investing hard-earned cash in backcountry gear and a recreational avalanche clinic. Before you know it, you’ve become a backcountry freak.
The WBFJ is a celebration of everybody’s transformation into backcountry enthusiasts. It is a festival that showcases skiing and riding in its truest and most inspirational form in uncontrolled terrain. Both experts and beginners can get involved in a variety of events designed to welcome folks into the world of ski touring.
The event includes a host of competitions and events that will allow skiers and snowboarders to experience a different side of winter. The entire WBFJ is non-profit event so proceeds will be donated to non-profit groups and associations affiliated with backcountry activities.
“This festival is also a chance for people who’ve been curious about the backcountry to try it in an non-intimidating atmosphere. You will get a chance to talk to people who backcountry skiing for a living and ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask,” organizer Delena Angrignon said.
The nerve centre of the WBJF will be the North Face Backcountry Village, an outdoor base camp set up at the top of Whistler Mountain. The public will have access to test the latest in backcountry equipment and check out product clinics, taught by experts and professionals. This is a chance to learn about a variety of winter backcountry activities and the best choices for equipment.

Snowjam in Norway -- Cold Kiting Fun For Everyone
Some seriously fun kiting going on in the wilds of Norway. 300 snowkiters are gathering at Finse in Norway this weekend. Finse, is small village in the middle of nowhere and you can only get there by train. As Snow kiter extraordinaire Remi Meum has to say: No contest or any compulsory at all... just realax and have a god time together. Soldier Catches Up with Breeze in Down Time
Friday, January 20, 2006"Most Soldiers play video games, watch movies, or read on their down time here at Forward Operating Base Speicher, but one Soldier has a unique way to relax.
Army Sgt. Todd Keenan, a Nutrition Specialist with the 47th Combat Support Hospital, likes to catch some air with his traction kite.
The old soccer stadium at FOB Speicher provides plenty of room for Keenan to catch a breeze and cruise around the field on what looks like a four-wheel drive skateboard. Kite Surfing is a combination of skateboarding and windsurfing. The whole set-up packs into a small back-pack and weighs just over 20 pounds. It can be done on the snow, land or water. "
