We will follow a new crossing route, starting from the southern tip of Greenland's icecap and heading north to one of the settlements on the West. Starting from the south gives us an opportunity to have more favourable winds and to go faster. The trip will take approximately 30-40 days, period departure august 2007 Ecological: through this expedition we believe that we have a unique opportunity to help raise awareness of the importance of wind and the energy that can be harnessed from this element. And of course the climate changes in Greenland and the effects on Europe.more info on the website http://www.firstdescents.eu/ Labels: adventures, greenland, snowkite Kitesurf greenlandMonday, March 12, 2007Definitely looks like you've got a little more room to play than that open patch below the tree-line between carson pass and south lake. Army Sgt. Todd Keenan, a Nutrition Specialist with the 47th Combat Support Hospital, likes to catch some air with his traction kite. The old soccer stadium at FOB Speicher provides plenty of room for Keenan to catch a breeze and cruise around the field on what looks like a four-wheel drive skateboard. Kite Surfing is a combination of skateboarding and windsurfing. The whole set-up packs into a small back-pack and weighs just over 20 pounds. It can be done on the snow, land or water. " |
